Today, the group provides an opportunity for carers and friends to connect, offer support, have a chat and a cuppa, and, at times, offer practical assistance and advice when possible.

A Banyle Network of Uniting Churches event

The Café of Dangerous Ideas is designed to do two things: for those of us who are Christians of any persuasion – it is designed to make us ask how our faith impacts on the modern world. For those of us do not share that faith, it is designed to ask how does your morality impact on the decisions you make about various issues in our world today.

The Café of Dangerous Ideas gives you the chance to actively engage your faith and to make connections with others in the community who want to learn and discuss. We welcome you whatever your beliefs and understandings.

We usually meet on the last Friday of the month at the Sycamore Tree Café at 185 Burgundy Street Heidelberg from 7.30 – 9.30pm. A delicious supper is also provided.

Parking is available in the Uniting Church, next to the cafe.

Global Mission Partners invites you to experience First Nations Culture.

Come and join Indigenous families in their communities as "they work towards reconciled and healed Australia."

This year Global Mission Partners are running 2 immersion tours where people are invited to join a local guide to visit and immerse themself in the First Nation culture, learning about the Indigenous Communities, their perspectives and a bit of local history.

The tours available are The IMA Juraki Discovery Visit from the 10th of August to the 13th of August in Fingal Head, New South Wales and the IMA Dhiiyaan Discovery Visit from the 29th of September to the 3rd of October in Dalby, Queensland. Both tours cost $900 (excluding flights) and covers meals and accommodation.

Yarra Yarra Young Voices co-design workshop

Workshop Details:

Date: Sunday October 5th, 2025

Time: 2-4pm

Where: Heidelberg SCOTS, 187 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg

What you can expect: When you arrive at the in person co-design workshop you will be greeted by UCA Ministers and Youth Leaders who will facilitate brainstorming conversations between you and a handful of other youth and young adults from local UCA congregations.

What we want:

· An open, encouraging, loving Christian heart

· Empathy to understand different perspectives

· Creative out of the box ideas

· Collaboration with diverse peers and facilitators

· Experimentation and preparedness to make mistakes and try again

· Commitment to safety and inclusion

The Craft Group is a safe and welcoming space for people to gather and do their own crafts, share their crafts with others, or learn new skills. It encourages new friendships both within and outside the church community. We hope this will, in turn, encourage the sharing of faith, leading to a closer relationship with God and the ability to offer practical support when needed within the group.

We have tackled many crafts, including woven paper baskets, Yo-Yo (Suffolk puff) making, punch board projects, notebooks, projects using buttons, macrame (it did not beat us!), colour wheel theory, quilling, polymer clay, teabag folding, lots of card-making techniques, and, of course, a full term of various Christmas crafts.

Living Faith Church Craft Stall!

Each year members of Living Faith host a craft stall after the service on a Sunday, raising money for charities.

Come along and have a look at some of the crats on offer from handmade quilts, cards, home baked goods and more.

All donations are welcome, however we ask that you price the items before placing them on the tables to sell.

Yarra Yarra Youth Council 2026

Overview

The Yarra Yarra Youth Council will bring together 15-25 year olds from Uniting Churches across the Yarra Yarra Presbytery in 2026. Meeting every two months and hosted by rotating congregations, the Youth Council is a group that aims to:

- Amplify youth voices in church life

- Build connections between young people and governance

- Foster inclusive conversations

- Support youth-led exploration of faith and service

Objectives

- Create a structured platform for youth and young adult voices to be heard

- Identify and address barriers to youth engagement

- Encourage leadership and diversity

- Build belonging and respect across communities

Discussion Ideas (to be adapted by youth council)

- Discipleship/mentoring/pathways to ministry

- Yarra Yarra mission and outreach

- Yarra Yarra youth and young adult retreats and events

- Barriers to church inclusion (intercultural, intergenerational, LGBTQIA+, tech)

- Contemporary worship practices

- Safe spaces for marginalised voices

- Young voices in church governance (e.g., Synod, councils and selection committees)

- Policy and practice review: Youth perspectives on church policies, especially those impacting young people

- Vision setting

Support Framework

A part time project worker will:

- Draft key documents and coordinate logistics

- Lead outreach and recruitment communications

- Enable safe and inclusive practices

- Evaluate project impact with youth and churches

- Facilitate youth led projects where requested

Under the auspices of Yarra Yarra Presbytery and Vic/Tas Synod.
